Parker to Cornell
Molly Parker will be competing for the "Big Red" next year. She will be attending Cornell University next fall. Molly is a Level 10 gymnast who is wrapping up her JO career this year. Although sidelined the majority of last season due to injury she was still able to qualify to Region 8 Level 9/10 Regional Championships. The season prior as a Level 9, she was first alternate to Eastern Nationals, was a Regional Medalist on three events and was All- Around State Champion. She also repeated as Floor Champion and Bars Champion. Throughout her career, Molly has achieved twelve State Championship titles, seven Regional Titles and the First Alternate to Nationals recongition. She is a Senior at Hume Fogg Academic Magnet High School where she maintains a 4.0 grade average, is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the Spanish National Honor Society. Last year as a member of Technology Club she was on the winning team of the Dell technology Challenge and helped win a mobile computer lab valued at $40,000 for her school. She is also involved in student government.
Molly expects to make a contribution initially to the beam lineup and hopes eventually to all-around for Cornell. Molly is looking forward to joining the team and training with a large squad of gymnasts with similar skills. " Our club is small and so it will be the first time in my career that I have worked with so many girls of my same level except at summer training camps and at Regional Training camps." Cornell will field a very large freshman gymnastics class this year as part of an overall growth plan. New team members are coming from all over the country and represent many different Regions. "It will also be so much fun to work with girls from different areas of the country outside of my Region and from the West. We compete mainly in the East." Parker is coming off a very frustrating season in 2004-2005 in which she was limited to only a few events for the majority of the season. "I injured myself on bars in my second meet of the season and was only cleared for State the day before. I qualified for Regionals but never really got all the way back until the season was over." She said last year was especially hard because she barely missed qualifying for National Championships the year before by only .125. This year my goal is to make it to Nationals to cap off my JO career." Parker's best events are beam and bars although she is debuting a new vault this year and expects to continue to score well on floor. "Vault has not been a strong event for me in the past few years but I think now I can expect it to be more consistent and higher scoring." She has upgraded all of her difficulty to adjust for the changes this year within the competition of USAG. See stated that she thought the changes were good and will help prepare her for NCAA competition. "Cornell is a dream come true! I am so excited to be able to do gymnastics at such a well regarded and high caliber school. I expect to have the educational experience of a lifetime. I could never have done it without the support of Gabriela Geiculescu. Gaby believes that education is the most important priority and she has always worked with my schedule to allow me to accomplish everything I needed to do with school while competing gymnastics at a high level. I don't know too many coaches who make it a priority over gymnastics when necessary.
